  • CMS Proposes New Rule Changes
    • SNFs: The Resource Utilization Groups (RUG) payment methodology would be replaced by a new system: the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM).
    • Hospitals: The new rule would boost reimbursement to acute care hospitals by roughly $4 billion and would also eliminate 40 quality reporting metrics that it deemed to overlap.
  • Legislation on our radar:
    • The PROSPER Act (HR 4508): the Republican version to renew the Higher Education Act. This will affect student loans–availability, rates, and more.
    • The POST GRAD Act (HR 2526): graduate students would be eligible for subsidized loans
    • Medicare Patient Empowerment Act (HR 4133): would allow Medicare beneficiaries the ability to opt out of medicare with their qualified providers, and like other insurances, pay cash for services then submit a form for potential reimbursement.

  • Guideline.gov is due to shut down on July 16, 2018 due to lack of federal funding….which leads us to the question: How do you get your research?
